History

Portugal participated in the 'Let's Take Care of the Planet' conference in 2009-2010. Then, the national coordination team changed and, since 2014, ASPEA - Associação Portuguesa de Educação Ambiental is coordinating the Project activities.

Participating regions:  6 (Barreiro, Monção, Aveiro, Viseu, Açores, Galicia )

Activities in 2015-2016

There are 8 participating schools from different regions of the country & Galicia and different projects and challenges.

In Monção - In the north of Portugal, 2 participating schools:

  • The EPRAMI Vocational School is working on two projects about energy efficiency, with actions such as making an energy audit of the school and a survey of the needs.
  • The Valença Basic & Secondary School is working on a Project on Ocean´s Principles.

In the center of the country, there are 4 participating schools.

  • The Castro Matoso School is working on awareness campaigns in the school with the aim to prevent environmental neglects.
  • The Nelas Secondary School is addressing the environmental problems, including radioactivity, caused by the extraction
  • In the Professional School of Tondela, environmental awareness tools were created, such as a board game to reduce the waste.
  • The Mangualde Secondary School is working on the detection of local environmental problems and promoting awareness raising activities, like conferences, walks and surveys to the local population.

In the south

  • The Alvaro Velho Basic & Secondary School is focusing on two local problems: the invasive species and air pollution caused by industry, and developing several actions such as an exhibition and awareness action of removing invasive species.

In Galicia

  • IES Virxe do Mar - the students are working on the climate change and their impacts on the Noia River (identifying the impacts and also proposing actions to improve the quality of the water and surroundings).

All of the participating schools organized very successful conferences.

Activities in 2009-2010

40 schools developed their initiatives and actions (participation of teachers, local authorities and other members of the community). Debates on the themes “Earth, Air, Water and Energy”, selection of actions and responsibilities to be engaged by the youth.

National Conference: 12-13 April 2010, Lisbon

Activities: workshops and assemblies, writing of a National Youth Charter of Responsibilities "Let’s Take care of Portugal". Selection of 8 delegates to participate to Brasilia Youth International Conference “Let’s Take Care of the Planet” (June 2010).
